‘TOUR OF DUTY’

This is the piece de resistance of our club. The MAJOR skiing (read ‘drinking’) trip of the year! Basically, 126 SUBSKI troops annex Queenstown for the best value social ski week around! Our ski trips are for total beginners’ right up to experts, and our partying... well, we know you’re all expert après-skiers! If you can find some past troopers from NZ (check RPA's liver transplant waiting list or detainees of Queenstown's penitentiary!) they will tell you it's the best 10 days of your life and complain that Subski gives them TOO MUCH BOOZE!!! (Seriously... a number of people recommended ‘less booze in 2010’. We ignored them.).

1 WEEK TO WREAK HAVOC, 51 WEEKS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE!!

Dates: 14 July 2010 to 23 July 2010.

  • All airfares and transfers
  • 9 nights accommodation
  • 6 day of Lift Passes at 4 mountains
  • Most meals
  • Formal Presentation Dinner
  • Survival Kit + T-shirt
  • BLOCKBUSTER Social Itinerary
  • MASSIVE BAR TABS EVERY NIGHT
  • Free Alcohol at the Lodge
  • BEST WEEK OF YOUR NATURAL LIFE

After extensive consultation and much arguing about the relative merits of Vodka Cruisers and Bacardi Breezers, the total cost of SUBSKI’s New Zealand ‘Tour of Duty as been finalised at $1875 (plus a $25 refundable bond).

So... START SAVING, YOU WONT WANT TO MISS OUT! Bring a group of friends, come by yourself and meet new people, Subski trips are for ALL! When we say ‘for all’, we really mean ‘for all’ – absolute beginners (we’ll get you some lessons!), Olympic athlete, boys, girls and everything in between. We even welcome troopers from other universities!

HOW TO GET ON THE TRIP

New Zealand Sign-ups occur in two stages.

1. Deposit Day

When you pay your $500 deposit and give us your details your place on ‘Tour of Duty’ is secure.

For those who are back for a second (or third...or fourth...or sixth) ‘Tour of Duty’, get priority sign-up on Monday 19 April out the front of Manning at Camperdown Campus between 12 and 2pm. If you are a newbie, rock up in front of Manning House (or if you’re at Cumberland Campus...outside the Depot) between 12pm and 2pm on the Tuesday 20 April.

Given there are over 2000 members, and only 120 places, you will need to be quicker than a post-graduate’s hand in lectures to assure yourself a spot. Every year the ‘NZ Tour of Duty’ sells out in less than 2 hours. It is not unusual for there to be a line of eager NZ trippers before the SUBSKI committee even arrives outside Manning. In the interests of fairness Subski will not accept ANY sign-ups over the telephone or prior to the designated sign-up days.

If you cannot be physically there to sign-up... that’s fine. Just make sure you send a friend in your place. This friend must have your deposit and know your name, email address and mobile number.

Once sold-out, you will have the chance to join our waiting list, which is used to fill drop-outs. Please note that if you drop out of the trip, the $500 deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable (except if you have a really really really good reason).

2. Final Payment Night

On NZ Final Payment Night has been pencilled in for Tuesday 10 May 2010.

The final payment for the NZ ‘Tour of Duty’ is $1375 + $25 refundable bond for the accommodation = $1400 (payable by cheque or credit card).

Additionally, on this night we finalise all payments and Emirates ticketing requirements, insurance, room allocations, ski/board hire, passport issues etc. Those who successfully sign up for the trip on Deposit Day will be contacted with more information close to the date.

Although cash and casino chips are easier to launder, we prefer cheques. Please make them out to “SUBSKI” or, alternatively, cheques made out to: “Subski Committee Slush Fund” will also be accepted. Deposits are Non-Refundable and Non-Transferable. Credit card facilities (MasterCard and VISA only) will be available on Final Payment Night only and payments made with credit card may incur an additional surcharge.
